The True Deceiver

Angela Maasalu’s solo exhibition The True Deceiver. The exhibition draws its inspiration from Finnish writer and artist Tove Jansson’s lesser-known, psychologically nuanced novel for adults, The True Deceiver (1982), which explores the boundaries between truth and lies, self-deception and trust. The questions explored in the novel take on renewed relevance today, in a world where the constant flow of information, misleading narratives, and conflicting perspectives can often make it difficult to make sense of what is happening around us. The exhibition reflects on the fine line between what we choose to believe and the illusions we are willing to create for ourselves. Angela Maasalu (1990) is an Estonian painter who, after graduating from Central Saint Martins, has been living and working in London. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Latvia.
