Nervus vagus

From September 4 to October 17, the group exhibition “Klejotājnervs / Nervus Vagus” can be experienced at PILOT, the experimental art space of the Art Academy of Latvia. → To wander, roam, stray, err, get lost, flâner. An urban walk in the company of six wanderers traces a map of Riga through painterly, sculptural, sonic, and sensory gestures. Abrasions and the taste of metal on the tongue – asphalt beneath which lies a beach, a footstep with a city below. On the palate and in the larynx, clinging to the lungs and pulsing in the eardrums souvenirs abound: visual observations, thoughts, overheard sounds, cartographic records of useful and useless routes. Bodily experience is intuitively weaved together with fictional narratives, through whose intersection today’s urbanity can be mapped. Embodying the spirit of Situationism through contemporary audiovisual reflection, the exhibition explores the city as a seemingly ordered structure in which chance, mistakes, and deviations become forms of resistance.
