Garden State

Dārza iestāde / Garden State An exhibition by the artist collective “Latvania” 24.04 – 30.05 2026 🌱 Garden State is a spatial waypoint within “Latvania’s” network of routes, a place where characters, dreams and imaginings are planted. From this soil, the “Gnome Series” emerges, searching for forms of new sincerity and reflecting on the complexities of the present moment. Within “Latvania”, the artists identify as gnomes mediators between reality and imagination. Their practice brings together installation, video and performative elements, while handcrafted “gnome artefacts” add a distinct material presence. This is “Latvania’s” first large scale exhibition. The collective is formed by Ieva Filatova ( @iveafil ), Marta Kalniņa ( @extrasense ), Anna Malicka ( @nnmlck ), Elīna Mekša ( @mekssa.go ) and Karlīna Marta Zvirbule ( @krrr.rr ) together with collaborators and mythical entities. The exhibition is developed within the framework of the Academia award, received by artist Anna Malicka in 2023. The programme, initiated by the Art Academy of Latvia in collaboration with Helen Scott Lidgett Studio, ACME and Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, provides emerging artists with international experience and support over a two year period, including the opportunity to create an exhibition at art space “Pilot”.
